MANILA -- The Anti-Red Tape Authority said Wednesday it would file a case against a governor for violation of a new law that aims to make government transactions faster.

The official, who was not immediately named, is accused of delaying the release of permits, said ARTA Director General Jericho Belgica. The case will be filed before the Ombudsman on Thursday.

"Bawal na bawal po yan na iipitin mo yung papel ng walang dahilan, kaya po yung officials na are still contemplating whether totoo itong batas na ito, we’re asking you now to please release the documents if they are already complete because it’s not going to be easy on you," he said.

(It’s prohibited to withhold documents for no reason. So for officials who are still contemplating on whether the law is real, we’re asking you now to please release the documents if they are already complete because it’snot going to be easy on you.)

Earlier this month, ARTA also filed a case against San Nicolas, Batangas Mayor Lester De Sagun for violation of the same law, and the Local Government Code.

Belgica also warned government officials to implement the Ease of Doing Business Act properly or face sanctions.
