MANILA - Food processing company CDO Foodsphere Inc. on Wednesday said it would comply with directives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) concerning complaints about a foul smell at its Batangas plant.

This, after DENR's Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) issued a cease and desist order against the company over residents' complaints about its treatment facility in Malvar, Batangas.

The company said it suspended operations of its waste water treatment and rendering facilities in Malvar town.

"In compliance with the DENR directive, we have temporarily suspended the operations of these two facilities while we are fast-tracking the improvements. The rest of the plant remains to operate normally and ready to serve our customers," CDO said in a statement.

"We strongly support the programs of our government and remain committed in keeping our environment clean and safe," it added.

The company also assured the public that its products are clean and safe.

The EMB on Tuesday said residents living near the facility have been complaining of unpleasant smell since 2018.
