MANILA - China has offered lapu-lapu (grouper) fingerlings to the Philippines, which it will buy after being grown locally, an agriculture official said Wednesday.

The venture, which could happen as early as this year, could help generate jobs in the fishing sector, said Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources national director Eduardo Gongona.

"Nasa talking stage (It's in the talking stage). They want it very soon, this year," Gongona told ANC's Early Edition.

Gongona said the fishing industry needs more investments, especially in processing.
