MANILA - A new pedestrian overpass was opened on Buendia (Gil Puyat) Avenue on Friday as part of efforts to encourage walking to work in the Makati financial district.

The covered walkway crosses Buendia from the upscale Columns condominium complex to RCBC Plaza, according to its builder, the Makati Commercial Estate Association (MACEA).

"The pedestrianization program is meant to ease traffic by supporting walking as a safer, more convenient, and affordable option to move around the business district," MACEA said in a statement.

A second overpass on Buendia that will connect People Support building to the Makati Post Office will be completed by April 2018, it said.
