MANILA -- Globe Telecom said Monday mobile data traffic doubled in the January to March period, driven by video streaming on mobile devices.

The Ayala-led telco said it would ramp up its network upgrade as mobile data traffic grew 105 percent in the frost quarter to 370 petabytes from 180 petabytes during the same period in 2018.

Globe said it allotted 68 percent of its total capital expenditure of P8.8 billion for the first quarter to data-related services.

Total consolidated service revenues in the first quarter reached P36 billion, with mobile data contributing P16.5 billion, Globe said.
