MANILA - The Philippines' power grid operator said Saturday it was donating essential medical supplies to 300 hospitals across the country to support government’s efforts in fighting the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has chartered a flight carrying the medical supplies from China, its spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza told radio DZMM.

The shipment includes 2 million face masks, 400,000 KN95 masks, 50,000 N95 masks and 2,100 infrared thermometers, the private consortium said on its official Facebook page.

As of April 28, some 43 hospitals have received medical supplies- part of NGCP’s P1-billion donation to the government’s relief efforts against COVID-19.

The distribution of some 1.25 million food packs to 1,028 local government units (LGUs) is also nearing completion, Alabanza said.

NGCP also said its workers, including linemen, are well-taken care of while they continued to operate amid lockdown measures imposed in Luzon, she said.

NGCP is made up of Monte Oro Grid Resources Corporation, Calaca High Power Corporation and the State Grid Corporation of China.

Its major stockholders Henry Sy Jr., Robert Coyiuto Jr. and the State Grid Corp of China in March approved the P1-billion donation to support the country's fight against the crisis.
