MANILA - High-impact entrepreneurs are those who know how to rally support around a great idea and execute it, said Ayala Corp Chairman and CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala.

Zobel is a member of the Philippine board of Endeavor, a global network of business leaders turned mentors. Aside from Zobel, the local board also includes ABS-CBN Chairman Emeritus Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III, Double Dragon Properties Chairman and CEO Edgar "Injap" Sia II and BPI President Cezar Consing.

Applicants for mentoring go through a "very tight funnel," Zobel told ANC's Early Edition.

"Part of the Endeavor model is we are here to help you," Zobel said. "In return, they ask that some of that success be shared with the network."

Endeavor's success stories include Xurpass CEO Nix Nolledo, who defied low credit card penetration and brought on-demand content and services on mobile devices across Southeast Asia.

"Leadership is really vital. It's all about the energy of the person leading... whether they have resilience, the drive and enthusiasm. Some people have that quality, that vision," he said.

Endeavor is looking for entrepreneurs "who have an idea, get people excited about it and then execute that idea," even if it's not easy, he said.

Zobel said he learned about Endeavor from her daughter, who worked as an intern for the group in New York. He said his daughter would phone him regularly, asking about what was happening in the Philippines.

"One thing led to another and they ended up putting up an office here," he said.

Asked what drew him to mentoring, Zobel said: "I keep learning. The world is not slowing down. There's so many ideas out there. It's hard to get access to those ideas," he said.
