MANILA - Former power executive Alan Ortiz died Monday in Paris due to complications from COVID-19, his daughter said. He was 66.

"Dr. Alan T. Ortiz - our dearest Alan, beloved father, Kuya to his family, and indulgent lolo - passed away in the early morning of March 23 due to complications from COVID-19," his daughter Monica Ortiz said in a Facebook post.

Ortiz left Manila on March 3. He was in the French capital for a security conference, his daughter said.

Before Paris, Ortiz traveled to London in December. His last known contacts have been identified and are "in good health," his daughter said.

As of 1 p.m. of March, there were 396 confirmed cases in the Philippines with 33 total deaths and 18 recoveries. The entire Luzon has been placed on lockdown to slowdown the spread of the disease.
