MANILA - Manila Electric Co said Monday it was "doing its best" to provide stable power supply in its franchise area as residential demand surges during the 30-day Metro Manila quarantine to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Please be assured that the company is doing its best to continue to provide efficient and stable electricity service within its franchise area," Meralco said in a disclosure to the stock exchange.

The demand from residential customers could partially offset the reduced demand from commercial establishments, schools and offices which will be shut from March 15 to April 14.

The COVID-19 pandemic could pose risks to operations and maintenance of service equipment in case of delays in the delivery of essential parts or materials, Meralco said.
