MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law extending the franchise of satellite pioneer Philcomsat for 25 years, according to a copy of the measure released by his office on Friday.

Philippine Communications Satellite Corp or Philcomsat is 35-percent owned by government. Duterte signed the franchise renewal, Republic Act 11226, on Feb. 22.

The President also signed on March 13 Republic Act 111238, extending the franchise of the University of Mindanao Broadcasting Network.

UMBN was founded in 1949 and runs AM and FM stations in Mindanao.
