MANILA — You can still bring your own cups to Starbucks cafés in the Philippines despite the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.

Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Starbucks Philippines said it is closely monitoring the new coronavirus situation in the country, even as Starbucks in the US and Canada already announced a ban on the use of personal cups.

According to Starbucks US, the decision to halt the use of reusable cups was made over concerns for “health and well-being.”

“We are still watching out for the recommendation for local health authorities,” Starbucks Philippines said.

It also reiterated that it will continue to comply with local ordinances ordering establishments to ban single-use plastics, such as in Quezon City, where local Starbucks branches started implementing the use of dine-in cups and cutleries.

The Philippines on Friday confirmed 2 more cases of COVID-19, the first Filipinos who tested positive for the pathogen locally.
