MANILA -- China's Xiaomi showed off its foldable smartphone, as smartphone makers raced to be the first to bring the display technology to consumers.

Xiaomi founder and president Lin Bin posted a video of the engineering unit on his Weibo page on Wednesday. He did not provide specifications of the device which folds two ways to transform from phone to tablet form factor.

The display is nearly bezel-less and runs MIUI, Xiaomi's version of Android.

Samsung, the world's largest smartphone maker, unveiled a prototype of its folding "Infinity Flex" phone last November. Number 2 player Huawei is also reportedly working on folding displays.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month, Chinese startup Royole showed off its first foldable smartphone. LG also unveiled its ultra-high definition television that rolls into and out of a base stand and can be furled and unfurled on demand.
