MANILA -- Mislatel, the Filipino-Chinese consortium which secured rights to establish the Philippines' third telco aspires to become the country's best carrier, its lead Filipino partner told lawmakers Thursday.

Tycoon Dennis Uy also submitted to the Senate Public Services Committee Mislatel's plan to roll out its challenge to the current players, Globe Telecom and PLDT Inc.

"Humility aside, we don't want to be just the third telco, we want to be the best telco, a telco that is fast, affordable and most importantly secure," Uy said, appearing in the committee hearing for the first time.

Mislatel, a partnership between China Telecom and Uy's Udenna Corp and Chelsea Logistics, promised to provide internet speeds of up to 55 mbps in its first year of operations.
