MANILA - ABS-CBN said Thursday its streaming service iWant kicked off 2019 with 11.3 million subscribers and its "edgy" new programs, movies and live shows.
iWant recorded 60 million video views in December 2018, and the app, which was launched in November, had 2 million downloads so far on iOS and Android, ABS-CBN said in a statement.
Thousands also watched Catriona Gray's Miss Universe quest on iWant, which livestreamed the finals held in Bangkok on the ABS-CBN Live channel.
New features will also be introduced to subscribers such as offline viewing and commenting on and chatting about their favorite content within the streaming service.
Aside from Chromecast and Apple Airplay compatibility, iWant will be available on TV streaming devices such as Roku, Android TV boxes and SKY set-top boxes.
Mobile users can subscribe to promos provided by their telecommunications providers to enjoy their favorite movies and shows on iWant.
Smart, TNT and Sun subscribers can stream iWant videos using Smart Gigasurf 99 with Video Every Day for P99. It comes with 2 GB data for surfing and other apps plus an additional 1 GB per day to watch up to 1 hour of videos per day, valid for 7 days, according to the statement.
Globe subscribers can stream Kapamilya movies and TV shows on iWant using the GoWATCH promo for as low as P29. Just text GoWATCH29 to 8080 to get 2 GB or up to 5 hours of streaming valid for one day.
Free original movies and shows such as "Glorious," "Spirits Reawaken, "Alamat ng Ano," "Ma," Laureen on a Budget," and "I Know Right? (IKR)" can also be accessed via web on iWant.ph.
NEW "EDGY" CONTENT
This month, iWant will release more original content including the romcom film "Allergy in Love," which is written and directed by Joross Gamboa and the erotic-drama anthology series "Hush."
iWant released the action-suspense series "High" earlier this month, featuring James Paterson and Ria Atayde.
It also brought back the team-up of Andrea Brillantes and Grae Fernandez in "S.P.A.R.K."
"The Gift" will feature Sharlene San Pedro and Nash Aguas. It tells the story of a young man with Asperger's syndrome who falls for a sheltered woman. The movie has received positive feedback for the star's performances and for promoting awareness on the developmental disorder.
iWant also offers old and current shows, documentaries and specials of ABS-CBN, 1,407 films, restored movie classics, fastcut versions of airing Kapamilya teleseryes, thousands of song, One Music's live digital concerts, livestreaming of “Camp Star Hunt,” “iWant ASAP,” DZMM TeleRadyo, ABS-CBN Channel 2, and ABS-CBN S+A.
