MANILA - The Department of Trade and Industry said Tuesday it approved the development of a food complex in Davao City, president Rodrigo Duterte's hometown.

The facility will rise on a 20-hectare property in barangay Dalio, Toril district and will serve as an economic zone for food-based industries, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said in a statement.

"The proposed Davao Food Complex will include food processing centers, cold storage and warehousing facilities with tourism attractions that will showcase the processed agricultural products of the region," Lopez said.

The "dampa-type" complex will also feature an agri-aqua culture for ornamental fish and hatchery facility, a technology and business incubation center and a water filtration and bottling facility, he added.
