McDonald's seemed to throw shade rival Jollibee on social media, promising that the Champ's counterpart, the Big Mac, isn't going anywhere. Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/file

MANILA—The domestic food-chain wars went up a notch on Friday, after McDonald's Philippines served up some good-natured teasing in the wake of Jollibee retiring the Champ burger.

Jollibee Foods Corp. confirmed Thursday it will be removing its longstanding signature offering, although it did not set a timetable.

That seemed to be the only opening McDonald's needed to throw shade at its rival on social media, promising that the Champ's counterpart, the Big Mac, isn't going anywhere.

Other burger variants however will still be available at Jollibee, the country’s largest restaurant operator added.
