When I woke up Saturday August 3rd 2013, I checked Twitter and saw my timeline filled with people talking about what might be the biggest celebrity scandal of the year. Unless you have been living under a rock, you surely have heard or seen the Chito Miranda and Neri Naig sex video scandal. The video spread like wildfire through Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, porn sites, forums, chat rooms etc. Netizens expressed their disgust at the actions of these two accusing them of being immoral and perverts.

Why do couples video tape themselves while having sex?

  • to enhance their performance
  • they prefer watching themselves than porn
  • to spice up their sex life
  • to fulfill a fantasy
  • they do it for fun

We all have our unique ways of expressing sexual intimacy. Making a sex tape is a subtle art. It can add more sensory pleasures to the experience. Filming can feel good but it’s not for everyone. If it’s not your cup of tea, don’t force it. Before you jump to it, here are some things to consider:

  1. Make sure that’s what you and your partner want. It should only proceed with the consent of both partners.
  2. Use a small, light weight camera.
  3. Make sure the lighting is good.
  4. Make sure only one copy exists.
  5. Don’t store it on your computer. Use a USB flash drive with an integrated program that lets you lock it with a password.

Chito and Neri’s video was meant to be private. People should not judge them harshly. I don’t personally know Neri Naig, but I had the opportunity to work with Chito Miranda and his band (Parokya ni Edgar) during our North American Tour (Feb 2013) with the Mocha Girls. I’ve seen Chito perform and every song he sings comes straight from his heart. He cares about his fans/audience enough to give a great performance. Chito and Parokya ni Edgar are living legends. They have been around for more than two decades and contributed so much to Philippine music. It’s not easy to get over this (large) bump in the road. It’s going to take a strong will and I admire how Chito handled this crisis.
