Scores of panicked residents fled from their homes and broke down in tears after a magnitude 5.4 aftershock rocked Leyte and nearby provinces on Monday, just days after a powerful tremor left 2 people dead in the central islands.

ABS-CBN News footage showed residents running away from their homes in Ormoc town, Leyte while children clung to their mothers and cried.

One elderly woman had difficulty in breathing and was rushed to the hospital.

"Ayoko na ng lindol, na-trauma na ako," she said as she clutched her chest and drew labored breaths.

At the evacuation center in Ormoc-Tongonan Polytechnic Academy Inc., a woman was also caught on video as she cried while rocking her body and cradling her infant.

Near her, another woman wept as she slumped on the ground.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) located the quake's epicenter at 9 kilometers southeast of Ormoc City.

The tremor was an aftershock of the magnitude 6.5 quake that shook Leyte last Thursday, said Phivolcs.

Intensity VI was felt in Ormoc City; Intensity V in Kananga, Leyte; Intensity IV - Mayorga, Leyte and Tacloban City; Mandaue City; Intensity III - Loay and Jagna, Bohol; Cebu City; and Intensity II - Lapu-Lapu City; Cadiz City, Negros Oriental.

Instrumental Intensity III was also recorded in Cebu City; Instrumental Intensity II in Palo, Leyte and Lapu-Lapu City.

Two immediate aftershocks, magnitude 3.3 and 3.2, respectively, were also recorded after the quake today. -- Report from Jorge Cariño, ABS-CBN News
