MANILA, Philippines – After only two seasons with San Beda College, Red Lions head coach Jamike Jarin is set to leave the perennial NCAA powerhouse for the UAAP.

A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ABS-CBN News that Jarin bid goodbye to the Red Lions on Tuesday morning, and informed the team that he has agreed to take over the head coaching position at National University (NU).

Jarin led the Red Lions to the NCAA Season 92 championship, one year after falling to arch-rivals Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the Season 91 tournament.

He will replace Eric Altamirano as head coach of the Bulldogs.

Altamirano led NU to the UAAP championship in Season 77, the school's first title in six decades. However, he resigned at the end of Season 79 after a disappointing campaign that saw the team finish with a 5-9 record and miss the Final Four.

NU athletic director Chito Loyzaga announced last week that they have accepted Altamirano's resignation and were accepting applicants for the coaching position.

Jarin was formerly the coach of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eaglets in the UAAP before moving to his alma mater San Beda.

He becomes the second NCAA coach to jump ship to the UAAP after winning the title. Aldin Ayo, whose Letran Knights broke the hearts of the Red Lions in Season 91, transferred to De La Salle University last year and led the Green Archers to the Season 79 crown.
