MANILA, Philippines — Boyet Fernandez may be in line for a second stint as head coach of the San Beda Red Lions in the NCAA after Jamike Jarin officially bid the school's men's basketball program goodbye.

Jarin led the Red Lions to the NCAA Season 92 championship, sweeping Arellano 2-0, but is set to leave the team after just two seasons.

Jose Mari Lacson, chairman of the NCAA management committee from San Beda, confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Jarin has informed the team he is leaving, though there is no official word yet from San Beda rector Father Aloysius Maranan.

"I just learned today that he already said his goodbyes to the players, but I'm still waiting for official word from father-rector," Lacson said.

San Beda is now in search of a new head coach and ABS-CBN News has learned that first among its candidates is Fernandez, who coached the Red Lions to two titles in a row in Seasons 89 and 90.

Fernandez left San Beda after two seasons to coach the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA, but was replaced in the offseason by Yeng Guiao.

The Red Lions compiled a 28-8 elimination round record with Fernandez at the helm.

In Season 89, they defeated the Letran Knights in three games to win the title, then swept the Arellano Chiefs in the Season 90 finals for their fifth consecutive crown.

Also being considered is former Letran coach Louie Alas, who is currently a part of the Alaska Aces' coaching staff.
