Nacho Beristain has been hearing about former boxing champions, including Manny Pacquiao, pursuing a fight with Conor McGregor.

And the Mexican legendary boxing trainer doesn’t like the idea.

In an interview on ESPN Deportes, Beristain said the motivation behind chasing the MMA star is misplaced.

"I think it's the need to make money, but money is not everything in life,” Juan Manuel Marquez's coach was quoted as saying in a story posted on BoxingScene.com.

He said that top-level boxing isn’t just about making money.

"I would not lend myself to that type of thing, boxing is more serious than people think," Beristain said. “I owe a lot to boxing and one day I'm going to die and I'm going to have to, so I respect the sport a lot.”

"An easy way to earn money is fine but, for those of us who love boxing and view it as a serious thing, we are against what is happening."

Last August, McGregor challenged former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. despite lacking real experience in pro boxing. He managed to last before getting stopped in the 10th round.

Pacquiao earlier posted a message on Instagram “calling out” McGregor. The former 8-division boxing champion timed it for Thanksgiving.

"Happy Thanksgiving! Stay fit my friend,” said Pacquiao’s message which came with the hashtag #realboxingmatch.

But the fighting senator later told ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo that it was merely a greeting. "Pagbati lang sa holiday season," Pacquiao said. "Pagbati lang, kasi holiday season eh."

Oscar de la Hoya, who hasn’t fought since losing to Pacquiao in 2008, also made the same callout to McGregor.

De la Hoya was one of those who opposed the Mayweather-McGregor fight.
