Rolando Dy, son of former world boxing champion Rolando Navarette, hammered out a unanimous decision win against a Chinese opponent at UFC Fight Night 122 in Shanghai on Saturday night.

Dy called his victory at Mercedes-Benz Arena "a miracle."

"Our camp received an email 3 weeks ago that they will cut me out of the UFC. So I was so depressed because I didn't have a chance to prove myself," he said in an interview with the MMA Junkie website.

"After two unfortunate losses, I was cut. I was at home forgetting the sadness that my dream as a UFC fighter was cut short."

As if something divine intervened, Dy got a subsequent call from the promotional outfit inviting him to return to its fold.

He said he was overweight at the time and "so out of shape," but his uncle told him to grab the opportunity anyway because this could be the second chance he was looking for.

"I cut nearly 12 to 13 (kilograms) in two weeks," Dy said. "I will prepare myself. If it's my last fight, then so be it but I'll give my best. "

Dy used his impressive striking to offset opponent Wuliji Buren's ground game during their catchweight bout.

He dropped Buren with a wicked left hook in the first round, but needed to go to the scorecards before securing the win.

"I believe without a doubt that I belong here. My heart belongs here, my mind belongs here," Dy said.

"I know my skills right now don't belong in the top 10, but I'll strive, I'm young, I'm 27."

"I will train hard after this, improve more and I'll fight my way (to) the top."
