MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo de Manila University's badminton teams are still in the hunt in the UAAP Season 80 tournament.

The Ateneo men's team won its second straight do-or-die tie, blasting University of Santo Tomas, 3-1.

Keoni Asuncion bested John Edgar Reyes, 21-16, 21-17, while Carlo Remo outlasted Diego Christian Yabut, 24-22, 20-22, 21-13, to put the Blue Eagles ahead at 2-0.

Clarence Filart and Sean Chan bowed to Mark Sotea and Reyes, 10-21, 18-21, in the first doubles to give the Growling Tigers a lifeline.

But Remo and Asuncion tripped John Miguel Santiago and Kristian Barrios, 21-15, 21-18, in the second doubles to clinch the tie for Ateneo and avenge its 0-5 loss to UST in the final day of eliminations.

The Blue Eagles will face twice-to-beat University of the Philippines in the second step-ladder, a rematch of last season's semis, on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

Ateneo first hurdled De La Salle University last Saturday to clinch the last semis berth.

Meanwhile, the Ateneo women's team also came away with a 3-1 win over National University in the step-ladder semifinals of their division.

Bianca Carlos and Chanelle Lunod provided the clincher for the Lady Eagles, who will face second-ranked Lady Shuttlers on Friday at the same Malate venue.
