FOSHAN, China—Rain Or Shine big man Beau Belga is no stranger to being left off the final line-up in the national team.

He was also cut from the team that competed in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship in Manila, which placed second in the tournament and thus clinched a spot in the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Belga had another chance to make it to the world stage this year, but he also wound up being left off the Gilas Pilipinas squad that will play in the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

Yet the burly big man showed no signs of bitterness, or regret — not just because he is already used to the feeling, but more so because he knows he did all he could to be of service to the national team.

"Hindi, hindi naman na bago yung pakiramdam. Hindi masama loob ko," said Belga. "Actually masaya ako dahil binigyan ko rin naman sila ng magandang laban, magandang laban for their spot."

"And I think they deserve it. Hanggang doon na lang maitutulong ko tapos dasal na lang. Manonood na lang ako sa TV," he added.

Gilas Pilipinas coach Yeng Guiao revealed that he was choosing between Belga and Raymond Almazan for the last big man spot, but opted to go with Almazan.

"Maybe it came to a point where it was between Beau Belga or Raymond Almazan. But Raymond kasi got injured in the last window. So hindi siya nakalaro nu'ng last window. So we felt na maybe this is the time for him to be able to experience and play also sa World Cup. So, ganoon," he explained.

The final 12 was announced Sunday night, but Belga still showed up to Gilas Pilipinas practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, before the team left for China.

For Belga, there was never a doubt that he would show up to help.

"Willing pang tumulong. Sa tingin ko may maitutulong pa ko sa kanila before they leave. Guide lang din ulit," said Belga, a veteran of the system that Guiao prefers to run.

"Wala naman nang ibang kailangan, kasi the coaching staff are doing their best na scouting 'yung Italy. So kung ano 'yung makikita kong mali, maiko-correct, maitatama, 'yun lang ginagawa ko."

While Belga did not make the trip to China, he makes it clear that he is willing to answer the call of duty for the national team again — even if there is no assurance that he will ever make the final roster.

"Kapag ako kailangan, andiyan lang naman ako. Hindi naman ako maglilipat ng bahay. So kung in case na kailanganin ulit tayo, kailangan yung serbisyo, okay lang," said Belga.

"Makatulong lang, masaya na," he added. "Bonus na sa'yo 'yung ma-lineup."
