Dines Dumaan and Jefferson Loon of the Philippines notched critical wins in pencak silat in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta on Friday to secure at least a bronze medal each.

Both of them won medals in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur — Dumaan a gold in the 45 to 50 kilograms division of the men's tanding putra Class A event, while Loon a bronze in the 60 to 65 kg division in men’s tanding Class D.

Dumaan topped Boynao Singh Naorem of India 5-0 in a quarterfinal match in men's Class B, 50 to 55 kilograms event, before advancing.

Loon first downed Mateus da Silva Concecao of Timor Leste 5-0
in the round of 16, then beat Almazbek Zamirov of Kyrgyzstan 4-0 in the quarterfinals to reach the next round in men's Class D, 60 to 65 kilograms event.

Dumaan will battle Muhammad Faizul M Nasir of Malaysia at 9:30 a.m. (10:30 a.m., Manila time) on Sunday.

Loon takes on Ngoc Toan Nguyen of Vietnam at 11:30 a.m. (12:30 p.m., Manila time) on the same day.

Victories by Dumaan and Loon will send them to the gold-medal match.
