MANILA, Philippines – Consistency remains an issue for De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB) in the NCAA Season 94 men's basketball tournament, with the Blazers having alternated losses and wins this early in their campaign.

They followed a heartbreaking loss to San Beda University by overpowering Jose Rizal University (JRU), 81-66, on Tuesday to hike their record to 2-2.

It was far from their best performance, as coach TY Tang noted after the game.

"Talking about consistency, I don't think we played to that today, still. We had a lot of unforced turnovers, we weren't really able to execute well on our plays," said Tang, who is in his second season as CSB's head coach.

Indeed, CSB threw the ball away a whopping 28 times. Fortunately for the Blazers, the Heavy Bombers were not quite able to capitalize, as JRU only scored 16 points off those turnovers.

CSB broke the game open in the second quarter, thanks to Clement Leutcheu who took over inside the paint and scored 10 points. It also the Blazers' cause that JRU's Justin Padua committed a disqualifying foul that resulted in a four-point possession for CSB late in the frame.

"It's still a win," as Tang said.

The youthful coach is hoping that as they progress in the tournament, he will see more of the consistency that he is searching for from his team. Tang is encouraged by the improvement they showed on Tuesday, especially after what happened to them against San Beda last week.

The Blazers had been in control against the defending champions before getting hit with "offensive combos" from Robert Bolick, and eventually losing, 75-69.

This time around, they were able to hold on in the second half after building a big lead at the break.

"Hopefully, we get those good experiences, good exposure for us to learn," said Tang. "Again, it's a long season, so we wanna keep learning every single game."

"Hopefully we get to correct ourselves every single game as well, bring it on to the next game, and maybe we can peak at the right time, towards the end of this two-round eliminations," he added.

Tang's squad will be immediately tested on Thursday, when they troop to Intramuros to challenge Colegio de San Juan de Letran on their home court. For the former De La Salle University star, their showdown against the Knights will be a good way to see how far the Blazers can go in Season 94.

"I think for us to be able to move and look at a clear picture in terms of our barometer for the Final 4, we have to play against them and beat them this Thursday," he said.

Thus, he wants CSB to be on point from jump off until the final buzzer.

"We have to double our effort in terms of bringing our energy from the start, all the way to the finish. It can't be like the game we played against San Sebastian and San Beda, where towards the end, we kinda like collapsed," he said.

"Hopefully we learn from those experiences early on, again to carry it moving forward in our games."
