MANILA, Philippines – Bali Pure's Jerrili Malabanan earned the Philips Gold-PVL Press Corps Player of the Week for games played for July 26-30, after she proved to be a key factor in the Water Defenders' march to the semifinals.

Bali Pure made it to the Final 4 of the Premier Volleyball League's (PVL) Open Conference, thanks in part to Malabanan's solid performances.

In Bali Pure's 25-21, 25-16, 25-23 conquest of fancied Pocari Sweat on Sunday, Malabanan took over offensively and fired 14 points, while also contributing on defense with eight digs.

Malabanan has firmly established herself as Bali Pure's third scoring option, after Grethcel Soltones and Risa Sato. At the end of the elimination round, she tallied 86 points on 73 spikes, 10 aces, and three blocks.

The Far Eastern University standout credits Bali Pure coach Roger Gorayeb for keeping the Water Defenders focused all throughout their campaign.

"When we enjoy ourselves, coach (Roger Gorayeb) always tells us that it’s good we’re enjoying but we have to stay calm and focused. He’s the one that calms us down," said Malabanan in an online interview.

The Water Defenders finished the eliminations with a 4-3 win-loss record, which gave them a semifinals date with unbeaten top seed Creamline starting on Saturday.

Malabanan bested the Creamline pair of Cesca Racraquin and Jia Morado for the weekly award.
