Mighty Sports are your 38th William Jones Cup champions.

The Philippines has another Jones Cup champion.

Mighty Sports completed its mission, beating Iran, 80-73, in Taipei Friday to virtually capture the 38th Jones Cup title and dethrone the Asian powerhouse.

Winning a sixth straight game, the import-laden Philippine representative are guaranteed of a championship regardless of the outcome of the final two games.

Former NBA player and NLEX import Al Thornton delivered the goods for Mighty Sports, scoring 12 of the team's final 16 points for the win.

He finished with a game-high 24 points.

Dewarick Spencer added 21 for Mighty Sports who just became the third Philippine club team to win the Jones Cup.

Northern Cement won in 1981 and San Miguel took the title four years later.

Gilas Pilipinas also won the Jones Cup title in 2012 while the RP Centennial team took the honor back in 1998.

Gilas placed second last year behind Iran with a 6-2 record.

The Irananians played without Hamed Haddadi, Nikkah Bahrami, and Mahdi Kamrani as part of the team's current youth movement.
