Twitter had a field day on Thursday (Friday, Manila time) roasting Cleveland Cavaliers swingman JR Smith, whose blunder proved costly in the Cleveland Cavaliers' 124-114 loss to the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

After grabbing the offensive rebound off a missed free throw by George Hill, Smith dribbled out the clock thinking Cleveland was ahead.

He realized his mistake belatedly as time expired, drawing LeBron James' ire.

The score was 107-all with 4.7 seconds left in regulation at the time of the crazy sequence.

Smith argued that he knew the score.

JR Smith: "I was trying to get enough to bring it out to get a shot off. I knew we were tied, I thought we were going to call timeout. If I thought we were ahead, I'd have held onto the ball and let them foul me."

But Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said Smith told him otherwise.

James, visibly irked when the moment happened, said he wasn't going to throw Smith under the bus.
