A former world champion from Australia believes up-and-comer Jeff Horn has little chance against Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in their welterweight title match on July 2 in Brisbane.

Anthony Mundine, who won titles in super-welterweight and middleweight, was quoted by the Courier Mail as saying that while Pacquiao is already past his prime, he remains "a dangerous fighter."

"On paper, you would think that Manny has it all day," said the 41-year-old Mundine, who last fought in February 2017 against compatriot Danny Green. "But anything can happen in boxing."

Nevertheless, he favors Pacquiao against the younger Horn, who is fighting a top-level fighter for the first time in his brief professional career.

"I have watched him a couple of times," Mundine said of Green. "He is just a young, enthusiastic, and confident kid."

"He is an awkward fighter," he added. "He has got some power, but I don't really go much on his skill."

The 29-year-old Horn enters the fight with a 16-0-1 win-loss-draw record, with 11 wins coming by knockout. Pacquiao is nine years his senior at 38, but the Filipino remains a massive favorite against the unheralded Australian.

Mundine is not the only one who doubts Horn's chances against Pacquiao, but Horn's trainer, Glenn Rushton, has been nothing but confident ever since the fight was finally confirmed.

He recently warned Pacquiao that he will definitely feel the effects of Horn's shots, claiming his ward can hit as hard as Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez – the last fighter to have knocked out the Filipino star.

"Jeff can hit as hard as Marquez, and he's more aggressive and unpredictable," Rushton said. "Jeff will do things that will confound Manny."

"I know that Manny and his team are very confident but I think this will definitely be the toughest, most grueling fight of Manny’s career," he guaranteed.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao has reportedly delayed the start of his training camp in order to attend a Senate session last Tuesday.
