MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo de Manila University mentor Oliver Almadro has not been formally appointed as head coach of the Philippine men's national volleyball team.

Almadro told ABS-CBN News on Friday that he has met with officials of the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI), but nothing has been finalized.

"No formal appointment yet," said Almadro. "Let's pray for the best."

It was widely reported on social media on Friday that Almadro has been tapped as the new head coach of the men's volleyball team, replacing Sammy Acaylar.

However, Almadro, the coach of the men's volleyball team that played in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, said this was not yet the case.

LVPI vice-president Peter Cayco also told ABS-CBN Sports that the position is still open, though they have already met with Almadro and other candidates.

"Wala pa decision kung sino (ang coach)," Cayco said. "Magmi-meet pa and evaluate ang selection committee ng LVPI."

Also up in the air is the identity of the head coach for the women's volleyball team.

It remains to be seen if the Philippines will send volleyball teams to the Asian Games in Indonesia in August.
