Jameel McKay scored 15 points, including the go-ahead bucket with 18.6 seconds left as Phoenix nosed out Barangay Ginebra 94-91 in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at University of Southeasten Philippines gym in Davao City on Saturday.

After McKay hit the awkwardly angled shot down low, the 12th lead change in a tightly contested 4th quarter, Ginebra had a chance to retake the driver's seat.

But a quickly called timeout by Ginebra nullified Japet Aguilar's breakaway dunk while its ensuing play resulted in a turnover.

Matthew Wright scored a game-high 27 points, including the insurance free throws for the final score.

Aguilar finished with 15 points and 5 blocks to lead Ginebra, while Joe Devance had the same scoring output off the bench.

Phoenix leveled its record to 2-2, following a pair of losses, while Ginebra fell to 0-1.

The game was more gritty, than pretty.

Phoenix shot 38% from the field, and Ginebra 41%. In total, both teams missed a combined 108 attempts.

But the final quarter showed the 2 teams' determination to win. On top of the dozen lead changes in the period, the score was also tied thrice.

McKay shot only 7 of 18 from the field (38%), but he made his presence felt off the boards, grabbing a game-high 28 rebounds. He also had 3 steals.

Justin Brownlee, McKay's counterpart at Ginebra, struggled on offense, tallying just 12 points (3 of 10 from the field), to go with 3 steals and 2 blocks.
