MANILA – (UPDATED) Police have arrested a man for reportedly trying to extort money from former Ateneo de Manila University star Kiefer Ravena in relation to the basketball player’s alleged photo scandal.

The Philippine National Police Anti-Cyber Crime Group has caught a Kristoffer Monico Ng in an entrapment operation, according to a statement released by Ravena on Wednesday afternoon.

Ravena said Ng threatened to "leak" photos and "tried to extort money from us."

“We’ve been silent the past couple of weeks because my parents have been consulting with law enforcement to get to the bottom of this matter,” he said.

Ng is facing charges of robbery and extortion and could face a minimum of 12 to a maximum of 20 years in prison.

“Now that we have the first suspect under the PNP’s custody, we hope to get more leads and information so justice will be served, and harassment and blackmailing such as this would end,” Ravena said.

A report by FOX Sports Asia identified Ng as a banker.

The suspect, meanwhile, claimed that he merely offered information in exchange of money but denied taking the video or posting it on social media.

Ravena had just arrived in Manila Tuesday.

Earlier Wednesday, Ravena offered little comment about his involvement in the alleged photo scandal that became social media fodder last week.

"Siguro, nasanay ka na rin lang na palaging may ganoon," he told ABS-CBN News. "I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it is what it is." --With a report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
