Donnie Nietes said he is willing to take on former pound-for-pound champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.

This after he received news that Gonzalez would like to fight him for the vacant world super-flyweight crown in Gonzalez's hometown of Nicaragua.

But Nietes, who is due to defend his world flyweight title against Argentina’s Juan Carlos Reveco this weekend, said he’d prefer to square off against Gonzalez at a neutral venue.

“I've always wanted to fight Chocolatito, but as great a champion as he is and I being a champion, I think it's best to fight in a neutral country. Maybe in the US,” he said through ALA Boxing Promotions chief Michael Aldeguer, who acted as his interpreter at the sidelines of a press conference promoting “HBO’s Super Fly 2.”

Nietes said that he holds Gonzalez in high regard, despite the latter’s two consecutive defeats against hard-punching Srisaket Sor Rungvisai of Thailand last year.

“I think he's still one of the greatest fighters, maybe he's not in his top shape in his last fight but I know he's still a great fighter,” Nietes said.
