MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine ice hockey team on Thursday left for Sapporo, Japan to compete in the 2017 Asian Winter Games.

The contingent took a Philippine Airlines flight that will bring them to Sapporo via Haneda, Japan.

"We've been training for six, seven months now, and we're ready," said team captain Steven Fuglister.

The Philippines will compete in Division II of the ice hockey event, where they will face off against eight other teams -- Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, Indonesia, Iran, Macau, Malaysia, and Turkmenistan.
