LOS ANGELES – The "Pretty Boy" received a Hollywood welcome.

A week before he makes his debut in the United States, flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas was officially introduced to Los Angeles media by Top Rank chief Bob Arum.

The Davao del Norte-born Ancajas fights for Manny Pacquiao's MP Promotions, and is now co-promoted by Arum's Top Rank.

"I think he's a scrappy kid. He has talent, he's a very, very nice boy who has good values, and I thnk he can become a major star on the international stage, on the US stage, and in the Philippines," Arum said of Ancajas.

"We really have high hopes for him. I'm not going to let anybody rush me into making fights for him, just because people want to see the fights," he added. "We're going to move him relatively slowly against good competition."

"I think we're going to make him a major star."

The 26-year-old will make his US debut in Corpus Christi, Texas this weekend when he defends his IBF title against Mexico's Israel Gonzales.

"Isang pangarap po makapunta dito sa US. Sobrang tuwa ko na andito na ako, lalaban na sa US. Dati, parang pangarap na lang," said Ancajas.

Ancajas made a stopover at the Wild Card Gym, where he met with coach Freddie Roach, boxing media, and people from the Philippine consulate. He also got a tour of the very gym that propelled his boss, Pacquiao, into becoming one of the world's best fighters.

"Sobrang saya po, natuwa ako kasi itong Wild Card, parang tirahan ng mga legend, mga champion, tapos napunta kami dito," said Ancajas. "Na-meet namin si Freddie Roach, si Sir Bob. Iba ang nararamdaman ko, sobrang tuwa ko na andito ako."

When asked if he plans on setting up base in the US, Ancajas said he will have to wait and see how his handlers want him to develop. They will have a clearer picture of his future after this weekend's fight against Gonzales, who brings with him a 21-8 record.
