MANILA - The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has announced that airport terminal fee paid by overseas Filipino workers will be eliminated come March 2017.

The good news was relayed by MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal during an interview on DZMM on Wednesday morning.

Monreal said he has been in touch with international airline companies, hoping to lessen the burden of OFWs who line up at airport terminals just to claim their refund.

"Ako po ay natutuwa, ang mga airlines accepted and we have already agreed in principle na di na sila na ho sila magbabayad at the point of sale abroad," said Monreal.

Early last year, MIAA implemented the International Passenger Service Charge (IPSC) in all air tickets for all international passengers.

Under the IPSC, the P550 airport terminal fee is integrated in all air tickets but OFWs who purchase their tickets online or overseas would need to line up to claim a refund at the airport terminals.

"Ngayon, since kailangang baguhin ang programa ng kanilang ticketing system sa online, humingi sila ng tatlong buwan para ayusin," said Monreal.

Monreal added that they are now in the process of redrafting the memorandum of agreement and is confident that international airline companies will keep their promise.

"Although wala pa kaming kasulatan siguro naman hindi nila babawiin yung ipinangako nila sa akin,” he said.
