SYDNEY - A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Saturday off the north coast of Papua New Guinea, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred at 8:47 a.m. local time, at a depth of 10 kilometers, roughly 186 km north of the city of Madang, in the southwestern Pacific island's Madang Province.
