Only small boats are allowed to enter Scarborough Shoal, fishermen said, as bigger vessels are not allowed to come close. They are also limited to only about three hours, as small boats have to leave the area before low tide, to avoid getting stuck.

MANILA — Pasig congressional candidate Ian Sia on Friday accused Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto and the local chief executive’s allies for hauling his “sex for single mothers” joke into the national spotlight, and claimed that his political opponents schemed to turn his jest into a national issue.

Sia — a local candidate — drew flak from national politicians, civic society groups and ordinary Filipinos after he said in a campaign sortie that he would allow single mothers in Pasig to have sex with him once a year should he win in the 2025 midterm elections.

Among the issues Sia has been hurling against Sotto was the alleged lack of healthcare facilities in Metro Manila’s 4th richest city, and the millennial mayor’s alleged failure to come up with government infrastructure projects during his 6-years in office.

Sia’s press release is a stark contrast to his meek and apologetic demeanor during a press conference he organized after his joke went viral, and after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) ordered him to explain why he should not be disqualified for his lewd remarks in the campaign trail.
