ILOCOS SUR - A 55-year-old tricycle driver died in a road accident Monday afternoon in Sta. Lucia, Ilocos Sur.

The victim was identified as Rudy Hallegado. Based on initial police investigation, Hallegado was on his way home when his tricycle was hit by a truck driven by Rodel Catcatan along the national highway in Barangay Barangobong.

The truck driver allegedly lost control and hit the rear portion of the tricycle.

"Nabangga ng truck 'yung likuran ng traysikel. Ayon pa doon sa driver ng truck nawalan sila ng preno. Hindi na niya nakontrol ang manibela," said PO3 Jennifer Elgarico.

Hallegado fell off his tricycle and was ran over by the truck. He died from severe head and body injuries.

"Tumilapon 'yung driver ng traysikel, iniwasan ng truck pero doon din napunta yung driver ng traysikel...kasi doon sa harap ng public market, busy kaya 'di na rin niya siguro napansin masyado," Elgarico added.

The tricycle also crashed into a motorcycle. Its rider, Nelson Biteng, sustained scratches.

Catcatan surrendered to the police. Authorities said the two parties have already settled the issue as of Tuesday afternoon.
