MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday evening consoled with families of those feared dead in the fire that engulfed a shopping mall in Davao City.

In photos released by Malacañang Sunday, Duterte, who was a long-time Davao City mayor, wept with the families after they were told that their loved ones had a "zero" chance of surviving the blaze that hit NCCC Mall Saturday.

Duterte, who is spending the holidays in his hometown, visited the mall located in the heart of the southern city Saturday night to comfort relatives of 37 people trapped. He also met with local authorities on the response.
