AGUSAN DEL NORTE- At least 9 people were injured after a mini-dump truck crashed into a passenger van at Calo-oy Bridge in Tubay, Agusan del Norte on Wednesday.

Truck driver Guillermo De Luna said he lost control when he stepped on the brake, leading the truck with a heavy load of concrete and hollow blocks to tilt and take a steep turn going into the lane of the approaching passenger van from the opposite traffic.

“Only one brake worked in one of the tires," [Usa ka ligid ra nipaak sa brake]," said De Luna.

Three passengers sitting on the front seat of the truck were hurt. One of them, Ruel Gupa, was seriously injured. Two others, Fernando Gauro and Jason Gauro, sustained wounds on the head, arms and legs due to the strong impact.

De Luna also sustained contusions and lacerations on his face and body.

They were brought to Cabadbaran City District Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the passenger van driver and his 5 passengers, including a child, were also brought to a hospital after sustaining injuries, according to the van's conductor Jess Levie Medina.

The van was travelling from Butuan going to Surigao City when the accident occurred.

A passenger bus that was tailing the truck when the accident happened avoided a multiple collision but bumped into a reinforced metal barrier beside the road near the bridge.

No bus passenger, however, was reported injured.
