MANILA - Ronnie Dayan, the former driver and partner of Senator Leila de Lima, is scheduled to appear before the Senate, according to Senator Panfilo Lacson.

The Senate is conducting an inquiry into the controversial killing of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. last November 5. His son, Kerwin, has claimed in a Senate hearing that he gave money to De Lima through Dayan.

In a House hearing, Dayan also admitted to receiving packages from Kerwin for De Lima, which he claimed he did not know apparently contained money.

While both Dayan and the younger Espinosa’s claim that money from the illegal drug trade reached De Lima, their statements had glaring contradictions.

One of the biggest inconsistencies between their testimonies was the one-year difference in the time they supposedly met each other. Kerwin said he met Dayan four times in 2015, while Dayan said his exchanges with Kerwin happened five times in 2014.

De Lima said she might not attend the Senate inquiry. She also said the conflicting testimonies of Dayan and Espinosa on how she supposedly received drug money means both of them are lying.

"Nakita naman natin kung paano nag-clash ang testimonies nila Espinosa at Dayan so ibig sabihin po niyan fabricated lahat yan," she said.
