ILOCOS SUR - A municipal councilor was killed Sunday, after he was shot by unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Magsingal Municipal Councilor Freddy Arquero, 55, was killed while he was aboard his motorcycle, along Barangay San Basilio, investigators said.

Arquero was shot several times and sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body. He was initially brought to Ilocos Sur District Hospital in Magsingal and then transferred to a private hospital. He expired while undergoing medical treatment.

Scene of the crime operatives (SOCO) recovered five empty shells and two slugs of what is believed to be a caliber-.45.

Investigators have yet to establish the motive for the slay but Ilocos Sur police already created a task group to investigate the incident.

The family of the victim refused to give a statement as of press time.
