MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday lashed out at the Makati police after reports reached him that a certain police inspector was involved in extorting tourists.

"I have heard two reports about the Makati police, nangongotong diyan sa mga turista (extorting tourists)," Duterte told reporters during his visit to his parents' grave in Davao City.

The president said that he has ordered the Philippine National Police to initiate summary dismissal proceedings on the unnamed police inspector.

"I am ordering the police right now, to relieve him, place him under suspension, and initiate summary dismissal," Duterte said.

He also gave the police official the option to resign.

"Or if you want, at your convenience, kung sino man itong inspector na ito (whoever this inspector is), you better resign," Duterte said.

Duterte also warned all corrupt police officers to stop their wrongdoings.

"Itong mga pulis na ito (these policemen), you better stop or I will stop you. You interpret it whatever way you like."
