LA UNION - A college student from Baguio City was found dead on the shoreline in Barangay Ili Sur, San Juan town on Sunday night.

The victim was identified as Menandro Ulanday. According to his mother, Ma. Cristina, they did not have any idea that he was in La Union, and what he was doing there.

"Wala ho kaming alam dahil hindi naman nagpaalam. Hindi siya nagpaalam sa amin. ‘Yong anak ko, mahilig siya sa photography. ‘Yan ang mga gusto niyang pinupuntahan. Ang problema, kahit kasama, hindi namin alam kung may kasama siya o wala. Pati yung girlfriend niya, hindi nga niya kasama eh," she said.

(We didn't know because he didn't tell us where he was going. My son likes photography. He goes to places where he can take photos. The problem is we didn't even know who he was with, or if he was alone. He even did not go with his girlfriend.)

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

According to Police Senior Inspector Reginaldo Dalipias of San Juan Municipal Police Station, they will perform an autopsy on Ulanday to determine the cause of his death.

"Although hindi naman sa surfing area nangyari itong pagkalunod dahil natagpuan ang katawan niya, more or less three kilometers away from the surfing area. Initially, findings kasi ng doctor na tumingin sa kanya, wala naman siyang nakitang sugat. At ang napansin niya, nakainom itong biktima. Hindi pa natin pwedeng i-conclude na nalunod nga talaga ito. Ipapa-autopsy pa natin," he explained.

(His body was found three kilometers away from the surfing area, so he may not have drowned while surfing. Doctors didn't find any wounds or injuries on his body. They also noticed that he was drunk. We cannot conclude yet that he drowned. We have to perform an autopsy.)

Ulanday was a graduating architecture student of University of Baguio.
