President Rodrigo Duterte arrived in Tokyo for an official visit on Tuesday to loud cheers from the Filipino community.

In a free-wheeling, curse-filled speech, Duterte discussed the gains of his bloody war on drugs that has invited criticism from the United States and the international community.

The meeting with the Filipino community was the first stop of Duterte's three-day visit, wherein he will also meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Duterte's trip to Japan came a week after a four-day state visit to China, wherein he reset relations that have been strained by disputes in the South China Sea while distancing the Philippines from the United States.
