It was not immediately clear what caused the explosion that wounded technicians Manolito Merana, 46 and Ruben Rabano, 25 both employees of Asia Philippine Energy Solutions Inc., said Superintendent Barnard Dasugo, Batangas, the city police chief.

"As of press time, the investigation on the root cause of the incident is still ongoing and the company is in close coordination with the 3rd-party service contractor in progressing the investigation as well as in ensuring adequate medical care is extended to both their employees," the statement said.

"As a result of the short circuit, there was immediate loss of power supply to the petrochemical facility's polymer plants, which in turn had to undergo the standard shutdown and safety procedures. Power was restored at around 3:00 am of October 11, 2016 and the polymer plants are now undergoing preparations to resume operations," the statement said.
