"Ah, six years pa siyang mag-aapologize. Ngayon pag na-realize mo na hindi tama eh, I think, at least you have that courage to apologize," Alvarez said.

[He will apologize for six more years. It's okay, we all commit mistakes. If we need to apologize, we will apologize. No one is perfect. When you realize you committed a mistake, I think, at least you have that courage to apologize.]

He is trying, I'm sure to change pero 71 years old na rin siya, you cannot change overnight also. Sincere naman siya. I'm sure he’s striving also pero mahirap naman magbago ng pabigla-bigla."

[He was mayor of Davao City and he suddenly became President because he was chosen by the people. Sometimes, it's the mayor still talking and the media exaggerate it. Let's cut him some slack and help him. He was chosen by the people and it's still his style that he used during the presidential campaign. He has not changed. He is trying I'm sure to change but he is 71 years old, you cannot change overnight also. He is sincere, I'm sure he's striving but it's difficult to suddenly change.]

Farinas was asked if he would advise the President to shut up for the meantime.
He answered, "Maybe until the time na naka-adjust siya. Pero iyun na nga, he loves the media, you love him also. He accommodates you also. Doon tayo nagkakaproblema. He is accommodating. Nahihirapan siya dun sa transition. Everything he says is being watched by the whole world. I would advise the President, huwag na ho kayong magsalita, magtrabaho na lang kayo. Mas maganda yun siguro."

[Maybe until the time he has adjusted. But he loves the media, you love him also. He accommodates you also. That's where we have problems. He is accommodating. He is having a difficulty in the transition. Everything he says is being watched by the whole world. He is used to being mayor. If he is only mayor, we wouldn't hear what he says in Davao. But they understand him in Davao. I would advise the President, don't speak, just work. Maybe that would be better.]

Alvarez said Duterte's statement about Hitlet does not mean the President sanctions genocide. "Ma'am, wala pa hong nangyayari. Kaya wala pang genocide. Threat pa lang yun eh. As I've said, it may or may not happen. A threat is only a threat. And there is no law prohibiting anyone from threatening."

Alvarez also sought to down play the President's threats against criminals. "Anybody, any leader can threaten criminals.

He, however, declined to give the President a direct advice. "In the first place, there is separation of powers. Ayaw nating makialam diyan.

[In the first place, there is separation of powers. I don't want to interfere. Even if he is President, he is human who commits mistakes. With the many problems the country is facing, it may be unavoidable that one commits mistakes.]
