MANILA - Lawmakers will start discussions on President Rodrigo Duterte's plan to shift the country's form of government to a federal-parliamentary system by January, Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III said Thursday.

Pimentel said he was eyeing increasing the number of session days in week to five from three to so that a new form of government is in place within the President's term.

The Senate President said he was targeting a plebiscite to approve the new Constitution by 2019.

The House of Representatives earlier submitted to Malacañang a draft executive order (EO) for the creation of a 25-man Constitutional Commission to help rewrite the charter.
